Learn Tongan - Part Two

Losana, Kensington and Sifa have put together a video to help us learn some Tongan words for common classroom items.  Take a look and see if you can remember all the words.

Rapping with ight

Each week we look at a word family.  We think of as many words as we can with that word family then we write a silly sentence with the words we have thought of.  This week we were looking at ight (ite) and while we were thinking of words Siale asked if he could write a rap instead of a silly sentence.  He worked hard over two days, to write and practice the rap.  Following his example Agnes, Calais, Sifa and Christine also wrote raps using words with the ight/ite sound.  They then used garage band, with the help of Leilani, to record their raps.  Here is the finished product.

Netbook Learning

Last week was our first week with our new netbooks.  It was a lot of fun using them and we have learnt a lot.  Here are some of the Room 10 children sharing what they have learned so far.

The Netbooks Have Arrived!

On Friday last week Mrs Kelly popped into our classroom with a mysterious black container.  At first we thought it might be filled with shoes or lollies but it was something even better - five new netbooks!  Today we started learning how to sign into google apps and it won't be long before we are google  experts.

Bees

The Giraffes reading group read an article about bees.  They have used puppet pals on the ipad to record some of the facts they learnt about bees.  Do you know any bee facts you could share with us? We would love to hear them. 

Maui and the Sun

Last week we were learning to follow the literacy cycle to complete a piece of writing.  We decided to retell the Maui and the Sun story.  First we planned our story and then we used this as a guide to write our story.  Our next step was work with a buddy to reflect on what we had written. Once we had finished our reflection, and made any changes necessary, we conferenced  with Miss Kirsty and then we were ready to share our work.

Into the Deep

We are lucky to have a temporary pool at our school and this week we started our swimming lessons.  We have had lots of fun learning to blow bubbles underwater, float on our tummies and backs and kick with long legs.  After our swimming lesson on Tuesday we made our first video using the ipad.   Kira helped people record themselves and Sifa has edited the movie using imovie on the ipad.  Well done everyone!
