Celebrating festivals

Celebrating Festivals

People feel excited when they celebrate festivals because they get to have lots of fun on festivals.
I am very happy when it is christmas because I get gifts from my family. I feel  fantastic because we get treats. It is exciting to watch fireworks. People look beautiful on Diwali. I feel awesome when I celebrate festivals.

People celebrate festivals to bring happiness  and fun in their lives. On festivals people light candles and fireworks that can be dangerous. Fireworks could burn your house. People spend money on festival. They spend money for the decorations on Diwali and Christmas.
We spend money to get decorations and fireworks and candles. Instead if we buy food for people they will feel happy.

Tamure and The Taniwha

This week we read lots of Maori traditional tales. Each Reading group had to read the story and then share it with the class using a medium of their choice. Jeridton, Daena and Kanye shared their tale through a puppet show. Click on the play button to watch 'Tamure and the Taniwha'.

Discoveries and their impact on lives

Cars have made it easy for us to go to distant places in a short time. A journey by car is comfortable too.

Character sketch of Sarah, the Baby Owl

We in Room 10 read a shared book 'The Owl Babies' by Martin Waddle. We all liked the story very much and out of all the characters we liked 'Sarah' the most. We decided to write Sarah's character sketch. We listed her 'Inside' and 'Outside' characteristics to write about her. Read some of stories about Sarah.

Sarah lived in a tree in a forest. her hole was full of twigs and leaves. She had two little baby brothers. Sarah had brown eye and they looked golden when the sun shone on them. She had soft yellow feathers. Sarah was a responsible owl because she looked after her little brothers when Mummy owl had gone to look for food.

Getting to know the names of people in my class

Buzz Buzz This is a game to help students learn each others' names. Play this game outside with a large bouncing ball. Gather students in a circle and explain that there are four sets of words permissible in this game. Buzz buzz, Ooh Ooh, Eee Eee and Aye Aye. Begin the game by starting your name followed by one of the nonsense phrases, and then bounce the ball to another person in the group. This player must say his or her name and then one of the nonsense phrases and then bounce the ball back to another person. The game continues in this manner, moving as quickly as possible from one player to another.
